My Summer Playlist

Posted on

Here’s my list of songs that I’ll always associate with Summer 2012:

Good Time by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen

While this song has been played over and over again, I can’t help but enjoy the catchy use of synthesizer which evokes a beachy, breezy feel that lets me relax and let loose. At the same time, I can’t help but want to get up and dance.

Home by Phillip Phillips

Partly because it was played under the promotional clips of the Fierce Five during the London 2012 Olympics and partly because the lyrics have become so meaningful to me. I’m not a huge fan of change and this song keeps encouraging me to stand tall and not let fear control my life.

Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen

Another song that has been played over and over again on the radio and everywhere else. But it is fun to listen to sometimes, especially when the entire group of 2012 Team USA Swimmers lip sync it and make a cool video with it.

Heinrich Maneuver by Interpol

Another popular tune as heard in the commercial with a guy and girl traveling all around the US and picking new songs for each area they visit. The guitar and the hook line of “How are things on the West Coast?” are catchy and make one want to hear more.

WHATEVER by Cream (Featuring WISE and Spontania)

A funky blend of synthetics, some catchy verses of Japanese mixed with English bits, and plenty of crazy styles in the video.

Catch Me If You Can by Jacqueline

From her role as Foxface in The Hunger Games, Jacqueline Emerson showcases her other talent of singing and original songwriting in this song. The video setting is perfect and the lyrics are fun and playful.
