A Song From Childhood

My family is not a die-hard country/folk music type of family but Dad used to play Mary Chapin Carpenter’s Come On, Come On a lot on the stereo. I used to listen to “The Hard Way” a lot.

We’ve got two lives

One we’re given

And the other one we make

These lyrics stuck with me because it’s true in my case. I was born in a shaky situation and was given up for adoption, which gave me a new life. Now that I’m older, I have to make my own choices to make my own life.
